There’s nothing like a face-to-face chat over tea to help people understand one another. On Thursday 9 June, Tea Time for Change will provide the tea and a space for you to meet your MP at Westminster Central Hall. But this isn’t just a cosy cuppa. It’s vital that MPs understand the strength of public support for action on global poverty – and that means hearing from you.
It’s great that the coalition government has ring-fenced the aid budget. But it’s important that they stay committed to increasing to the quality and quantity of aid.
The government also has an opportunity to push for fairer global financing for development by taking action on global economic injustices – such as ending tax avoidance and supporting a tax on financial transactions (or Robin Hood Tax).
Newer MPs need to hear the call for justice for poor countries, and MPs who’ve been around for longer need to know the demand hasn’t gone away. That’s why MRDF is working with Christian Aid, Oxfam, Tearfund and many others, to support Tea Time for Change and ensure that as many MPs as possible get the message.
With an ecumenical service, speakers from our overseas partners, special guests, and informative workshops, there’ll be plenty to make the day memorable.
There are coaches and car shares coming from all over the UK to Tea Time for Change. Plan your transport
