The problem
The major causes of poverty, or the situations that make it worse, are often the same across national and cultural boundaries. Whether it's unfair trade, environmental damage or discrimination based on race or gender - it's always the poorest people that suffer the most.
MRDF partners overseas are tackling poverty at a local or regional level. But to have a wider impact, and to support their work, we in the UK need to act against poverty too by examining the choices that we make and considering how these might have an impact on people living in poverty.
What are MRDF partners doing?
All of MRDF's campaigning and development education partners are UK-based organisations. They identify causes of poverty through research, raise awareness about possible solutions and target those in power in order to change the situation for the better.
MRDF partners encourage people to think carefully about their lifestyle choices, but also enable them to take political action, through involvement in letter-writing and lobbying campaigns.
This campaigning is also a way of showing solidarity with communities overseas and a commitment to take action together.
All MRDF partners provide useful resources and information. For example, MRDF partner Eco-congregation provides resources for churches to help them to carry out 'environmental audits' and incorporate environmental concerns into every aspect of their work and mission.
