Christmas appeal - DRC and Zimbabwe

After a year of chronic hunger and political instability in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zimbabwe, MRDF
is urging people to remember those who have been affected.

In the DRC, an estimated 250,000 people fled their homes when
fighting broke out between Government forces and rebel fighters in October. At the time, reports from the country included stories of massacre, rape and looting. Two months on, thousands of people are still in need of clean water and emergency aid.

A cholera epidemic has compounded the already desperate situation in Zimbabwe – a country suffering from severe food shortages, a growing HIV/AIDS problem and economic instability. An MRDF appeal in April raised over £30,000 that has been used to provide food supplies, supplementary vitamins for those living with HIV/AIDS, counselling for AIDS orphans and small livestock for food and breeding. But the need in Zimbabwe is huge, and growing by the day.

MRDF is supporting appeals through ACT (Action by Churches Together) International that will give vital assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in DRC and continue the work started in Zimbabwe. Staff in the DRC are assessing current needs and planning to provide food and safe water to those affected. Displaced families will also be given tools and seeds to ensure that there is food in their new communities next year.

To donate to MRDF's appeal for DRC and/or Zimbabwe by debit
or credit card, call 020 7224 4814.

Or you can donate by cheque, payable to ‘MRDF (DRC emergency)' or ‘MRDF (Zimbabwe emergency)', and post to:
MRDF, 25 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5JR.

Taxpayers are encouraged to gift aid their donations where possible, adding a value of 28p to every pound they give, at no extra personal cost.

Thank you.
