Global Crisis : Local Solutions

The developing global food crisis is having a severe impact on many of the world's poorest communities. In Bangladesh, the price of rice has risen by 40% in three months. This has presented a significant challenge to our partner in Dhaka which works with 3,000 street children. MRDF is working closely with its agricultural partners to support local, long-term solutions that will provide food for communities today and for future generations.

Act now on Climate Change

The legislative process for the Climate Change Bill is close to completion but there are still some demands outstanding. Ask your MP to support two proposals before the Public Bill Committee. The first sets a target of an 80% reduction in UK carbon emissions by 2050. The second ensures that international shipping and aviation figures are included in total carbon emission figures. Now is the time to ensure that the legislation reflects what is really needed to tackle the root causes of global poverty. Your support could make the difference.

Generosity in Adversity

Myo Lin* survived Cyclone Nargis by sheltering in a tree for 8 hours. He lost his wife and daughter in the storm but, thankfully, his son survived. MRDF's support has enabled survivors like Myo Lin to access shelter, clean water and food. His story isn't unique among the thousands of people in Burma who were affected by the cyclone. Thanks to the swift and generous response from MRDF supporters, £90,000 has been donated so far to help the survivors. Thank you to everyone who has supported this appeal.
