An exciting new web space aimed at teachers in Methodist State primary schools will be launched today at a teachers' conference in Chorley, Lancashire.
World AIMS (World Action in Methodist Schools) helps all 75 schools in England and Wales connected to the Methodist Church to develop approaches to global citizenship that mirror the importance of the wider world in our everyday lives. It is a partnership between Methodist schools in the Independent and State sectors and Methodist Relief and Development Fund (MRDF).
"Teachers lead busy lives," said Co-ordinator Catherine Lewis. "Our research clearly shows that schools want a service which sifts through the many resource options available and identifies the ideas for assemblies, lessons and approaches that fit their context, as well as ongoing support with global citizenship activities. There?s evidently a lot already happening and we hope that this new web space will help this work to flourish and grow."
World AIMS has been working with Methodist secondary schools since 2001. It offers curriculum and policy support, facilitates projects around Fairtrade, environmental action and human rights, provides student and staff workshops on global issues and stimulates learning about MRDF partner organisations overseas.
The new web space will include a secondary education section and areas for Methodist Independent Schools and Methodist Maintained Voluntary Schools.
